About STEG

As a private, not-for-profit organization, STEG fosters prosperity and vitality in Chemung County through the planning, promotion and implementation of economic development programs. Our board of directors has over 65 members, over 75 percent are private business people working side-by-side with chief elected officials and education and community leaders to help create and retain jobs, sustaining a strong economy.

Southern Tier Economic Growth (STEG) does the work of many organizations, which saves you time and money. We serve as staff to the Chemung County Industrial Development Agency, administer the City of Elmira Revolving Loan Program, the Village of Horseheads Revolving Loan Program, the Empire State Poverty Reduction Initiative, and we work closely with our regional partners to help lead the I-86 Innovation Corridor. Our office is physically located with the Chemung County Planning Department, the Chemung County Chamber of Commerce, and Elmira Downtown Development, which allows for easy collaboration on economic development projects in Chemung County.
