Chemung County is strategically located central to six major metropolitan areas and offers easy access by land and air, as well as extensive rail service for freight. There is also a public transportation system that links the city of Elmira with neighboring communities.

Commercial Airport
The Elmira-Corning Regional Airport offers the convenience and ease of a small community airport with the services and amenities one would expect in much larger facilities.The airport recently completed a $14 million airfield upgrade and constructed a new $58 million terminal.
Three national commercial airlines provide jet service at the airport – Allegiant, Delta, and United Airlines. Currently, direct, non-stop regional jet service is available to international hubs which provide non-stop and/or one-stop service to most major domestic and international destinations. Owned and operated by Chemung County, the airport also provides travelers’ services, including major brand rental cars, taxi service, a restaurant, a business center with Wifi throughout the entire airport.
Also available at the Elmira-Corning Regional Airport are charter plane and helicopter services and a well-qualified, fixed-base operation to service any corporate aircraft.
Interstate
Interstate 86 provides easy east-west access from New York City to Buffalo. Within 60 minutes of Chemung County, I-86 provides connections to:
- I-390 North to the New York State Thruway (I-90) and Rochester
- I-81 North to I-90, Syracuse and Canada, I-81 South to Washington, D.C.
- I-88 to Albany and Montreal
- I-99 to the Pennsylvania Turnpike and I-80 connect with I-86.
Train/Freight
Norfolk Southern, the New York Susquehanna and Western, Canadian Pacific (Delaware and Hudson) provide freight rail service in the region. Owego and Harford provide trackage and service to all areas.
